toss me my key
sing in another one

dünne dicke dünne dicke
sing off sing
off.




2)"hold on"

sitting stripped to my slip,
singing sip for sip
to the music of being six stories up
and i drop my cigarette butts
out the window and watch them like a sailor's wife on a widow's walk
on their down down down.
i cook up another dizzy drop while annelise reads the shopping list:
cigarettes, booze,
breakfast food,
cold medicine
and streamers for maifest,
a voice to sing and sigh, two toes for testing the water,
and a tin of vitamin c.
counting out change becomes an operetta
when the pennies hit the pavement and hunger shrills and the sunlight trills
and the morning is a gentle hand with a slap of absinthe
and a nose streaming with the freezing air we brought back
from the train platform in gotha.
everyone is gone and tonight i will be too,
and annelise's room will swell with the smell of another moment's jokes,
and i will dream of ohio and i will and and and
